My experience with Keto Diet ft. Green Chef
If you have been following me for a while, you know I don't follow a particular diet. I am always up to try new things. When I was approached by Green Chef to try out their new Keto Series, I immediately said yes. If you have never heard of Green Chef before, they are a meal delivery service.
What's a meal delivery service?
The main idea with these services is that they do all the annoying frustrating work of creating a meal plan, making a grocery list, and doing the shopping for you. How cool is that? I love cooking, baking and taking pictures, but it's so much work to plan out the meals, go grocery shopping etc. They do the dirty work for you! You will choose your diet plan, then you choose for how many people and it is delivered to you. Every week, you will receive the all the ingredients for the recipes, recipe cards, and steps how to make the recipe. Doesn't get better than that.
Why I said yes to Green Chef?
I am very particular with the companies I decide to collaborate with. I would never try or show a product or service that doesn't meet the standards of this blog. I have tried other meal delivery services before, but what makes Green Chef different is the quality of the ingredients. All their ingredients are USDA organic, Non-GMO, and they work closely with farmers and food manufacturers who reinvest in the environment. WIN WIN!
What is Keto Diet?
Now that we know what is Green Chef and why I agreed to try it out, let's talk about this particular diet. Maybe you have heard of Keto diet before or maybe not. Plain and simple, Keto Diet is well known for being a low carb diet, where the body produces ketones in the liver to be used as energy. So how does it work? Well, it really helps our body to use fat instead of sugar for energy. Typically on a normal, higher carbohydrate diet, the body will use glucose as the main form of energy. By lowering the intake of carbs, the body is induced into a state known as ketosis. Ketosis is a natural process the body initiates to help us survive when food intake is low. During this state, we produce ketones, which are produced from the breakdown of fats in the liver. You can read more here.
The end goal of a properly maintained keto diet is to force your body into this metabolic state. We don’t do this through starvation of calories, but starvation of carbohydrates. Many studies have shown Keto diet is beneficial for people with diabetes and obesity.
I had read about Keto diet before, but I never dare to try it. Why? because I didn't know where to start. In order to succeed and maintain this diet, it is important to know how to do it. I am Colombian so I love me some carbs hahaha, I think the scariest part when learning about Keto diet is that is a low carb diet, therefore, you assumed you will be hungry. I was not hungry at all, I felt satisfied for longer and my boyfriend felt the same way.
The recipes were super easy to make, they didn't take more than 35 minutes. All the ingredients for particular recipes are color coordinated and labeled. I mean really?? it is that simple.
I really enjoyed both making and eating these meals. It felt like such an exciting adventure to get outside of my usual kitchen rut and try new things. Honestly, I would have never tried to cook lamb before, I am so glad I did because my boyfriend and I loved it so much.
It was such an honor to be chosen to do this review for you guys. I think Green Chef is an excellent alternative for someone who doesn't have much time for meal planning and go to the grocery store. This service is convenient and it will make your life so much easier. I also think I would've never tried keto diet if it wasn't for Green Chef. If you are looking to start with keto diet or any diet in particular, vegan, paleo, whatever it is. Green Chef is a great way to start. It would take the hassle of thinking, planning and getting ingredients for your meals.
Thank you for making it this far, thank you for reading.
